Oh my word, friends. This dish is famous in our family as a holiday staple. It it a side dish? Is it a dessert? Who’s to say! Regardless of what you call it this outstanding sweet potato casserole will quickly become a favorite with your family too.
Sweet Potato Bake
Ingredients
To make the filling
- 40 oz can sweet potatoes, drained and mashed
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 5 tsp vanilla extract
For the topping
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine all filling ingredients
- Pour into a prepared baking dish & set aside
- In a medium bowl combine the topping ingredients. Crumble over top of potato mixture.
- Bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until mostly set. It will be a little jiggly in the center when done, but will firm as it cools.
